Jamel "Loose Joint" Brown

Jamel Brown, better known for the past 3 decades as “Loose Joint” (as a member of MopTop and then a founding member of Elite Force) is a 1st generation pioneering Freestyle Hip Hop dancer from New York with 40 years experience in the culture. As a pre-teen NYC Kid, He went from practicing Breaking and Electric Boogie/Popping in the hallways of his building with blasting a boombox and using large bank windows as mirrors to practice his dance moves on marble floors, to becoming a street hitter in front of large crowds as a member of The Float committee back in 1983. as half the tandem of the Fantastic Duo, he was live on stage Competing at The Roxy’s, where he won The Big Breakdance Contest or battling in the circles on the floor of the famous Roller Skating Rink. the fantastic duo became featured dancers in the classic Blockbuster hip Hop movie “Beat Street” that opened in theaters back in 1984 following the succes of the movies Wild Style, Flash Dance and Breakin. He performed in concerts with rappers On The Fresh Festival Rap Tours i & II, appeared in TV shows, commercials, films, and later on in his career as a freestyle hip hop dancer and choreographer in music videos of the late 80’s and throughout the 90’s for artists like Michael Jackson’s Remember The Time” 1992, Reckin Shop Documentary 1992, Mariah Carey Dream lover 1993, Will Smith’s Gettin Jiggy and Miami videos, and Jay-Z’s Sunshine feating Foxy Brown Just to name a few. Loose has toured the world countless times with his crew judging and performing with artist through the 90’s and ultimately Elite Force Shows at Dance competitions, teaching hip hop dance workshops and judging 1vs1 hip hop and crew battles across the globe from 1994 up until the present. two of the most notable international battle events Loose has judged is Juste Debout 2007 in France and Summer Dance Forever in Amsterdam where he served as the hip hop judge. there are countless other events all over the world that‘s he has judged and performed and since that time has not stopped sharing his knowledge and experience with the young generations of dancers, no matter what country they come from over the past 3 decades. Loose Joint’s life longevity in dance is a testament of his love for hip hop music and Dance culture so much that he continues to maintain his roots in dance while continuing to be motivated and dedicated to his own improvement through learning as well as sharing with the new generation today.
